Born in Oklahoma, Ford had been a member of Roadside Monument and Pedro The Lion. As a result of his own songs not melding with either, he formed Unwed Sailor in Seattle and has since been based in other cities including Chicago, Tulsa and New Orleans. Ford has led Unwed Sailor in a myriad of instrumental directions over the past 26 years, from angular post-rock rhythms, to dream pop shoegaze soundscapes, to the sounds of homemade instruments playing storybook nursery rhymes. Thank You, I’m Sorry came together as a band to flesh out quiet, lonely songs Lleen built on their own, and they haven’t stopped exploring and expanding their sound since. Bee Schreiner’s (they/them) basslines effortlessly pull songs forward, knowing just when to nudge the band to avoid getting caught in an anxiety spiral. The drums from Sage Livergood (they/them) bring everything together, constantly keeping pace while poking out into fills that feel like they could shatter apart at any moment, yet always finding their way back. Emerging from a desire to address the gender gap in music at the University of the Arts, Mollie and Sophia initiated the formation in 2019. Drawing influences from jazz, synth pop, funk, Latin, and more, Gloss’s sound defies easy categorization. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Gloss persisted in creating music, releasing their first EP with remote collaborations.
