OK Cool ~ Lowercoaster ~ Grocer

AGE RESTRICTION: Only Ages 21+ can purchase tickets for this show. NO REFUNDS/EXCHANGES for anyone underage who purchases or attempts to use these tickets.Doors: 7:00 PMShow: 7:30 PM   OK Cool Across the ten tracks on their debut album Chit Chat, Bridget Stiebris (she/her) and Haley Blomquist Waller (she/her) of OK Cool not only build on the trademark sound that helped grant them their status as one of the most exciting bands in Chicago’s thriving DIY scene, but also explore new musical and thematic ideas that push their artistry in exciting directions.  The new album was entirely written, performed, and produced by the duo, with engineering support from fellow Chicago musicians Avery Black, Brad Harvey, and Wesley Reno, and pulls from new material as well as songs the band had written as far back as 2019.  That Stiebris and Blomquist can evolve while maintaining hat has consistently made them great since their inception five years ago shows how keenly aware they are of their strengths, and also how willing they are to keep discovering new places for their sound to go after three EPs.  Chit Chat pulls influence from a wide range of contemporary indie artists who value lyricism and experimenting with production and form, such as Great Grandpa, Rosie Tucker, Indigo De Souza, Illuminati Hotties, Alex G and Oso Oso. The album blends songs with hooky melodies (“Fading Out Forever”), shoegaze sensibilities (“Splitting”), guitar theatrics (“Jeans (I Get It Now)”) and even delicate piano (“Loop”), but these tracks never feel disparate thanks to the thoughtful songwriting and instrumentation that fans have come to expect from OK Cool. Standouts from the album include singles “Waawooweewaa,” which Stiebris describes as “an oldie but a goodie” and highlights the band indulging in their most straightforwardly rock and roll sensibilities; “Safety Car,” an ode to the people who have your back that features synth over the album’s most endearingly pop chorus; and “Last,” the album closer, a heartfelt reflection on self-doubt over a perfect blend of acoustic and electric guitars that Stiebris and Blomquist say is a mutual favorite OK Cool track. Chit Chat is the sound of a band simultaneously continuing to invent their voice and remaining confident in leveraging what’s worked. It’s the sound of two best friends collaborating effortlessly to craft a singular sonic language. And it’s the sound of two masters of their art creating a debut full-length worthy of the hard work they’ve put into getting to this point in their career.   Lowercoaster Big riffs, bigger hearts.   Grocer Grocer is a band from Philadelphia.

Amy Jay ~ Alison Stiel ~ Stone Cold Grace

AGE RESTRICTION: Only Ages 21+ can purchase tickets for this show. NO REFUNDS/EXCHANGES for anyone underage who purchases or attempts to use these tickets.Doors: 7:00 PMShow: 7:30 PM   Amy Jay New York based indie alt-folk singer songwriter Amy Jay’s songs are like plastic knives — pliable, yet cutting. Throughout the 10 songs on her new album, Mnemonics, Jay proves she knows how to wield them tenaciously. She is a master of exploring what makes the vulnerable acceptable, alluding to the Joycean concept of what makes the universal specific. Throughout Mnemonics and across her oeuvre, she transforms sketches of folk songs into fully formed indie rock panoramas that alternatingly float, stun, and comfort. The architecture of her songwriting, varied in length, tone, and dynamic, stands out, but it’s Jay’s voice that’s the connecting tissue, whether performing with a full band or solo. Amy Jay’s Mnemonics is due out November 7 via Mother West.   Alison Stiel Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter ALISON STIEL has always been fascinated by the concept of memory – why, after so many minutes lived, only a handful actually stay with us years later. As of December 2024, her ten track album “Memory” is out in the world and available to stream everywhere. The isolation of lockdown pushed Stiel to start writing her own music, and by the time the world reopened, she had become adept at capturing her most standout moments – ones that haunted her, ones that comforted her, ones that she lived in for probably too long. Drawing inspiration from the open tunings and intricate guitar patterns of Adrianne Lenker, as well as the anthemic lyrics and vocals of artists such as Mitski and Samia, Stiel’s songs are deeply personal yet deeply relatable.   Stone Cold Grace STONE COLD GRACE is the pseudonym of indie folk singer/songwriter Sara Johnson. Compared to the likes of Joni Mitchell, Patti Griffin and Allegra Krieger, Johnson weaves stories of love, loss and becoming into delicately crafted songs. When Johnson isn’t making music for Stone Cold Grace, she fronts philly-based indie rock outfit Caring Less.
