Slim Chance is a Philly-based rock band that draws its sonic identity from British Invasion garage rock, American folk, blues, and late-70s power pop. The band came to be in 2025 when Liz Van Horn (vocals/guitar), Steve Newell (drums), Mike Dudolevitch (guitar/vocals) and John Cunningham (bass/vocals/production) joined forces and had so much fun playing together that they didn’t care if there was a “slim chance” anything would come of it. They are excited to have just released their debut EP “Kind of Love” this April.
Dave Cope and the Sass was formed in 2019. At the time, the band consisted of prolific Philadelphia singer songwriter Dave Cope on guitars, keyboards and vocals, Ethan Ryder on bass and Fred Berman on drums. The band cut their first self titled release in that same year. The album was met with great reviews and featured the minor hit single If Your Mama Only Knew. In 2022 the band released a follow up entitled Julee, including songs Cope had written much earlier, recorded with a previous band called Dave Cope and the English Breakfast, again with Ethan Ryder holding it down on the bass. The album was a hit among power pop aficionados and was named the #1 album of the year on David Bash’s International Pop Overthrow list of top records of 2022. Since then, Cope and the band have continued to release new music including the albums Songs Of Sea And Sky and Hidden From The World. The current line up includes Cope on guitars and vocals, Sarah Biemuller and Alison Wadsworth on backing vocals, Lucas Rinz on bass, Fred Berman on drums and Justin Mazer on lead guitar. Though only playing live shows here and there in the past couple years Sass has had some noteable appearances including opening for 90s legends Huffamoose at Ardmore Music Hall in 2025. Cope is continuing to release new music including the 2025 release Walmartyr. More full length albums are scheduled for release in 2026 and 2027. Many of the Sass records are available at Kool Kat Musik.
