Low Hum
Low Hum, the kaleidoscopic creation of native Hawaiian artist Collin Desha, lives in a Lo-fi meets Hi-fi futurism: Blending fuzzed-out riffs, oceanic tranquility, and pop sensibilities, alongside melodious synths and honeyed vocals. Low Hum’s mesmerizing exploration into the sounds of the yin and yang as we live it is a journey through psychedelic soundscapes and grounding lyrical concepts that call to our courageous self; to face the unknown. Desha, who has carved out his niche in the indie rock world, continues to shape Low Hum’s distinct sound and identity on the latest offerings from Terra Incognita, upcoming full length album due May 2024 via Last Gang Records. Consequence of Sound likens “Only If You Say So” to “a cut from an alternate universe where Thom Yorke went a more club-friendly route with his electronic work. With falsetto vocals and ominous synth pads, the tune sets up a visceral and futuristic vibe that explodes into fuzzed out madness. Its a compelling, dynamic, deeply satisfying composition.” The consummate Low Hum bass synth tone and ripping riffs on opening track “Meet Me In The Sky” are instant welcome-to-the-show earworms, and “Hints” touches on what it means to human, the nature of reality, and the power of love in a forever uncertain world. Since the release of debut album Room to Breathe in 2019, and follow up Nonfiction in 2021, Low Hum has also garnered praise from tastemakers like NPR, KCRW, Clash and Relix Magazines, with Flood Magazine describing the music as “floating in similar sonic atmospheres as Tame Impala and High Fidelity legends, Beta Band.” Fan favorites “Comatose” “Nebraska” and “I Don’t Know Me Like You Do” have garnered tens of millions of streams on Youtube, Spotify and Apple Music, and Low Hum has played to thousands on tours spanning Europe, Canada, and the US. Currently on the road with Meltt, and upcoming dates on the east coast dates supporting Ra Ra Riot in May.
