Fullscreen ~ O. Wake ~ Redbud ~ Powerhouse of the Cell

AGE RESTRICTION: Only Ages 21+ can purchase tickets for this show. NO REFUNDS/EXCHANGES for anyone underage who purchases or attempts to use these tickets. Doors: 7:00 PM Show: 7:30 PM Fullscreen When in a spiral, directionlessness prevails. Circling stuck patterns. Gravity settling in with the weight of confusion. Tumbling out of the tumult can either bring harmony or headache. Philly-via-Richmond psych-rock trio Fullscreen emerges from the center of this chaos with Labyrinthitis, their debut full-length following a trail of singles and the whirlwind start to the decade. The group, faced with personal and creative shifts, entered a labyrinth of their own, built in RVA and Philly and mastered by Scoops Dardaris (Another Michael, Prince Daddy & the Hyena). Reorganization led to re-assessing Fullscreen in widescreen—deepening their dream-pop sets with backing tracks and sampling, invigorating their songwriting with a visceral sense of focus and scope. Born out of a battle with the eponymous inner ear infection, Labyrinthitis chronicles a years-long quest to regain one’s balance. This serves as the narrative throughline, but the mission statement of the musical tension as well: a delicate push-pull between psychedelia’s outer limits and the constructiveness of grounded maturity and vulnerability. Fullscreen, on this recording and elsewhere, is Harper McGrath (he/him), Eric Schueler (he/they), Jon Furson (he/him) and Kirby Vitek (he/him). O. Wake Brooklyn mainstay O. Wake is masterminded by visual artist and illustrative musician Ofer Shouval. Shouval’s probing songwriting combines elements of art pop and indie rock to explore the anxieties and absurdities of today’s world through witty vignettes and sweeping soundscapes. With intimacy wrought from vulnerability and a uniquely bashful confidence, O. Wake’s emerging sounds inspire play and movement while evoking a rainbow of feelings. Redbud Redbud is a band planting itself in the heart of the Austin music fan with whimsical, psychedelic tones and meditative, soul-exposing lyrics. They’ve recently supported international touring acts such as The Front Bottoms, Giant Rooks, Magic City Hippies, A Giant Dog, The Duncan Fellows. With a sound described by Austin’s favorite radio station KUTX as “a masterpiece of unearthly arrangements, airtight structures, and a caliber of songwriting we rarely hear from relative newcomers”, you are sure to be swept up in the tide of their innovative essence. Powerhouse of the Cell Powerhouse of the Cell began as a marketing experiment conducted by Keywrb Lab Group for the Monsanto Company in the early 1990s. The goal was to create the illusion of a grassroots environmental movement through false flag TV and radio hijackings with music and visual art. The actions of this group would then be demonized by the general public through opposing media campaigns. Musically, the creators at Keywrb Lab Group took influence from Darkwave, Post-Punk, and Pop music from the 1980s. Lyrically Powerhouse of the Cell would contain themes of environmental destruction, modern day political and social anxieties, science fiction, and underlying feelings of hope. Visually the project would rely heavily on video synthesis as well as pieces of found footage. While this project was ultimately defunded sometime in the early 2000s, there has recently been some documentation of the experiment resurfacing. Performances have been linked to former subjects of the experiment known as 2514 (vocals, guitar, synthesizer), 23519 (vocals, guitar, drum machine, synthesizer), and 1815141425 (vocals, bass, synthesizer).

Doors: 7:00 PM Show: 8:00 PM Camping in AlaskaCamping in Alaska is a post-emo band based in Huntsville, AL. Austin Davis and Jacob Stewart started writing music together at age 15, drawing from influences of childhood-favorite bands such as Jawbreaker, Modest Mouse, and Knapsack. They started their careers in Austin’s mom’s garage and soon began playing DIY shows all around North Alabama with the addition of Ben Cape and Jacob Hill. Their breakout album about being in high school and hanging out in parking lots, Please Be Nice, was recorded in 2013 and quickly took underground internet forums by storm after the popular YouTube channel jommeez uploaded the album with their most popular song, “c u in da ballpit,” holding 1.9 M views to date. After Ben left the band, Eli Long was added to the lineup for the recording of BATHE in 2014. The album was picked up by Broken World Media and released on cassette in 2015. The band took a hiatus for a couple of years after recording Welcome Home Son in 2016, a darker, more serious album about addiction and loss. With the addition of Dani Fandre, the band made a strong comeback in 2022, releasing an EP of acoustic demos recorded through 2017 and 2018 called Lost and Found and selling out both of their come-back shows. The anticipated next release, Eggbeater Jesus, draws influence from Jawbox and The Weakerthans and grapples with more mature subject matter pertaining to addiction, homelessness and finding a way out. The full length has been a long time coming; the well received, cathartic single “Icarus” was recorded and released on a compilation CD in 2019.https://campinginalaska.bandcamp.com/music Michael Cera Palin Atlanta-based emo/indie punk. AGE RESTRICTION: Only Ages 21+ can purchase tickets for this show. NO REFUNDS/EXCHANGES for anyone underage who purchases or attempts to use these tickets. Doors: 7:00 PM Show: 8:00 PMMONDO GENERATORMondo Generator was formed in 1997 by Queens of the Stone Age bassist/singer Nick Oliveri. Initially intended as a solo/side project, the classic “Cocaine Rodeo” album was recorded that same year, but shelved until the Southern Lord label released it and its unique brand of criminal insanity to widespread acclaim and horror in the summer of 2000. The follow-up, “A Drug Problem That Never Existed,” was released jointly in the Summer of 2003 by Ipecac/Rekords Rekords to further critical acclaim. A worldwide tour followed that was chronicled on video for the DVD release “Use Once and Destroy Me”. In 2004, Mondo Generator recorded and released “III The EP.” Oliveri began a solo acoustic career shortly after, which would see two full releases, “Demolition Day”, and 2010’s “Death Acoustic.” To date, Mondo Generator has released six full lengths, two EPs and various singles. The most recent critically acclaimed full length, “Fuck It”, was released February 2020 by Heavy Psych Sounds records and features guest appearances from members of other Oliveri-related projects such as The Dwarves, Moistboyz and Svetlanas. The Mondo Generator live show is a three-piece powerhouse of Nick Oliveri on bass and vocals, Mike Pygmie on guitar and Mike Amster on drums. The crushing lineup frequently tours the world whipping audiences into a desert-core induced frenzy of rock n’ roll mayhem. “Punk hasn’t felt this dangerous in a long time and Mondo Generator aren’t even strictly a punk band, at least not in the traditional term. But that’s why we love them. Exploring themes of life, coming of age, and loss, they marry synths, washed-out guitars, and a driving rhythm section. Led by vocalist/songwriter Sarah Gulish, New Enemies plays earnest songs with catchy melodies and drifting guitar lines. Their 2016 was hailed as a beautiful new beginning for the band of friends. Journalist Julie Miller reviewed the songs as “majestic in a somber, soft way, billowing up in a cloud of horns as Sarah Gulish’s vocals float in layers over top. The chamber rock of TVV’s songs still ripples underneath, but as New Enemies, they’ve added a shiny gloss of atmospheric pop that ties it all together in a Death Cab-meets-CHVRCHES kind of way.” Subsequent releases, including their self-titled EP (2022), highlight New Enemies’ ability to craft songs with catchy hooks and poignant lyrics.
