**MOVED TO UNDERGROUND ARTS** The Beaches ~ The Thing

Dave Kiss Presents: The Beaches with The Thing at Underground Arts * Moved from Kung Fu Necktie – All Tickets Honored * Monday, October 16, 2023 Doors: 7:00 PM | Show: 8:00 PM 21+ ————————————————— About The Beaches Website | Instagram | Twitter The Beaches are doing everything their way. After more than a decade together as a band, sisters Jordan Miller (lead vocals, bass) and Kylie Miller (guitar), plus closest friends Leandra Earl (guitar and keys) and Eliza Enman-McDaniel (drums) are entering a new era. On their new album Blame My Ex, the 2x Juno Award-winning Toronto band channels heartbreak into self-discovery through 10 exuberant songs that revel in pain and redemption. Lead single “Blame Brett,” an acerbic pop-rock knockout Jordan calls “a song for all the hot messes out there,” has racked up more than 13 million streams on Spotify and more than 10 million views on TikTok, peaking at #2 on Spotify’s US Viral chart & has spent 8 consecutive weeks (& counting) at #1 on Alternative radio in Canada. And now, finally, The Beaches are now free to make music that feels true to themselves. Their unyielding bond and shared journey make The Beaches a musical force to be reckoned with and a testament to the power of sisterhood and friendship. How could you not be obsessed? ————————————————— About The Thing Website | Instagram | Facebook The band originated in High School when Michael Carter, Jack Bradley, and Zane Acord bonded over a shared love for rock & roll. Over the years they honed their craft, self recording and writing songs influenced by 60’s pioneers such as the Kinks, Grand Funk Railroad, and artists of The Nuggets Compilation. As they progressed in skill and knowledge the band started to envision a career inspired by the likes of Brian Jonestown Massacre, King Gizzard, and The Black Keys. The Thing started playing shows and creating a buzz around New York City in the Winter of 2022. Shortly after, the band embarked on small tours up and down the east coast. Their energetic live performances earned the attention of honest music lovers. Their debut record “Here’s The Thing” was released in April 2023. The record is a compilation of songs written throughout the early years of the band. It was self recorded and produced deep in the hills of Sharon, CT, continued in their Crown Heights apartment, then finished in the band’s East Williamsburg studio, Onion Records. While each environment was set up with humble equipment, the band’s commitment for authentic recording and their passion for rock & roll is what makes the album unique. With the album out in the wild and the addition of Lucas Ebeling on the kit, The Thing is relentlessly touring, recording new music, and breaching the modern world of rock & roll. LONG LIVE THE THING

It received glowing praise and attention from Pitchfork, Brooklyn Vegan, and Consequence, who wrote “Friko toggle between loud and quiet, thoughtful and self-deprecating, while never expressing anything less than the unbridled joy of noise.”  FLOOD wrote the Chicago-based power-pop group is “ certain to stand out among the hundreds of acts gracing the various SXSW stages this year.” And that they did. The band took SXSW 2023 by storm, playing packed showcases over several days that made their Austin-debut a must-see occasion. Bolstered by the unwavering support from Chicago’s music scene, the buzz around new music, and the pure excitement witnessed at SXSW, the interest from labels is voracious and ever-increasing.   Over the band’s time together, it has become clear they are comfortable embracing multiple musical extremes at once. Their debut self-released 2022 EP, Whenever, Forever, weaves “together heart-on-sleeve folk, tense, smoldering post punk, and soaring, melodramatic chamber pop rooted in 2000s indie” (Chicago Reader). Lyrically, Kapetan explores the possibility and risks of a life given over to music, interrogating what a life well-lived means to him. The duality rings out in the compositions, evoking rock and folk icons such as Leonard Cohen and Nick Drake. The EP found collective support amongst the local music community, championed by their peers Horsegirl, Lifeguard, Free Range, and more.  Friko’s music is complex and dynamic, flickering between explosive rock, chamber pop, and serene sonics.GartenheadWhat began as a little seed in Albuquerque, was brought to Philadelphia by three childhood friends. As the project was planted and tended to by old buds, dynamic new members joined the effort to grow something potent, hearty and beloved.
