(We Intend to Cause Havoc) Website | Facebook | Instagram | YouTube | Spotify W.I.T.C.H. (We Intend To Cause Havoc) were the biggest rock band in Zambia in the 1970s and spearheaded a new genre dubbed Zamrock, fusing influences that ranged from the Rolling Stones to Black Sabbath and James Brown and mixing them with traditional African rhythms and bush village songs. At t the peak of their popularity, the band often needed police to keep fans at bay while their lead singer Jagari – whose name is an Africanisation of Mick Jagger’s – riled up crowds by stage diving from balconies and dancing manically as the WITCH’s blend of psychedelic rock and African rhythms permeated the surrounding atmosphere.Jagari is the charismatic sole surviving original member of the band. As Zambia’s economy stagnated and the country buckled under the AIDS crisis, WITCH fell apart. Jagari retreated to a life of quasi-anonymity as a university music professor before being wrongfully arrested during Zambia’s toughest hour. Now a man in his 60s, he spends his time mining gemstones hoping to strike it rich, until very recently the band being just a nostalgic memory of his youth. ———————————- About Death Valley Girls Website | Facebook | Instagram LA mystic-rock mainstay Death Valley Girls return with the announcement of their upcoming LP, Islands In The Sky, out February 24th via Suicide Squeeze Records. Teenage Halloween ~ Dollar Signs ~ Superweaks ~ Timeshares
**All shows 21+—valid ID required** Doors: 7:00 PM Show: 7:30 PM Teenage HalloweenStand by your friends that are hurting. That’s what New Jersey power punks Teenage Halloween do through soaring arrangements of melodic angst, wracked vocals that insist “I love you so much I would die for you”, and passion-packed two-minute dispatches tackling topics from gender euphoria, to state abuses, and an eternal quest for mental wellbeing. The results are potent punk dioramas that document young queer life at the edge of America. At the heart of vocalist and guitarist Luk Henderiks’ lyrics is an urgent longing for community. Despite their often strikingly personal vulnerability, these songs reach out to the wider world, striving to hold themselves and those around them accountable for their actions and to make space for those that need to be heard. In 2020, the band released their self-titled debut album via storied Garden State label Don Giovanni and swiftly won over a host of tastemakers. BrooklynVegan placed it at #10 on their Best New Punk Albums Of 2020, while Sterogum hailed them on their 40 Best New Bands Of 2020. American Songwriter, Paste, and KEXP brought further kind words to the table. Now two years past its release, the album continues to gain new fans, with a third vinyl pressing recently announced. Having been unable to tour the album on its release in pre-vaccine times, the band have hit the road with abandon in 2022 with over 60 shows under their belts by mid-August; including their first national US tour, an invitation to showcase at SXSW, and dates with Chris Farren, Good Riddance, The Spits, Elf Power and many more. These shows invariably deliver a calling card of unrelenting energy, wry wit, and warmth. As they make their final preparations before heading into the studio to record the followup to Teenage Halloween, this band which operated as a ‘rotating cast’ in it’s early years, is now firmly entrenched as an essential four-piece comprised of Henderiks alongside Eli Frank (guitar, vocals), Tricia Marshall (bass, vocals) and Peter Gargano (drums). The quartet maintains the vital energy of their previous incarnations but brings an even more focused punch to the arrangements that leaves greater room for Henderiks’ lyrics. Fans of the band will also have noticed the creative assent of Marshall who takes the vocal lead on multiple songs that have become defining features of the band’s recent live shows and which bring a fresh new viewpoint to the band’s ongoing sonic mission for a more equal and just world. https://www.instagram.com/teenagehalloween https://www.facebook.com/teenagehalloweennj https://twitter.com/tnghllwnband Dollar Signshttps://dollarsigns.bandcamp.com/Superweakshttps://thesuperweaks.bandcamp.com/Timeshareshttps://timeshares.bandcamp.com/
