Initially intended as a solo/side project, the classic “Cocaine Rodeo” album was recorded that same year, but shelved until the Southern Lord label released it and its unique brand of criminal insanity to widespread acclaim and horror in the summer of 2000. The follow-up, “A Drug Problem That Never Existed,” was released jointly in the Summer of 2003 by Ipecac/Rekords Rekords to further critical acclaim. A worldwide tour followed that was chronicled on video for the DVD release “Use Once and Destroy Me”. In 2004, Mondo Generator recorded and released “III The EP.” Oliveri began a solo acoustic career shortly after, which would see two full releases, “Demolition Day”, and 2010’s “Death Acoustic.” To date, Mondo Generator has released six full lengths, two EPs and various singles. The most recent critically acclaimed full length, “Fuck It”, was released February 2020 by Heavy Psych Sounds records and features guest appearances from members of other Oliveri-related projects such as The Dwarves, Moistboyz and Svetlanas. The Mondo Generator live show is a three-piece powerhouse of Nick Oliveri on bass and vocals, Mike Pygmie on guitar and Mike Amster on drums. Brooks and Genevich spent most of the summer and fall of 2021 in Los Angeles working again with producer Dylan Herman (Beck, Pynkie) on their second full-length LP. Tapping into all the angst and anxiety that accompanies coming-of-age during bleak and uncertain times, ‘A Place You Grew Up In’ acts like a time-capsule of its inception period, exploring a range of themes from the loss of innocence to the struggles of coming to grips with reality. Balancing tender songs edged with slacker-rock guitars and spiralling otherworldly synths, the album sees Laveda spreading their wings with creations that nod to the lyrical intimacy of contemporaries such as Soccer Mommy or Big Thief, with the expansive sonics of classics acts like Slowdive to The Cranberries. From the record, Laveda have released singles including the sun-drenched “Surprise”, the antsy and ethereal “F***”, the shimmering “Clean”, and latest single “Troy Creeps”; earning support from Brooklyn Vegan, Under The Radar, The Independent, The Revue, The Rodeo Mag, and many more in the process. Recorded while the band stayed on a ranch just outside of LA in what Genevich describes as “a very therapeutic process”, the album features their full live band for the first time, including Dan Carr (bass) and Joe Taruone (drums). In the lead up to the album’s release, the four-piece have also completed two extensive headline tours across the US. Currently signed to VT/NY-based label PaperCup Music, Laveda has released ‘A Place You Grew Up In’. An album that draws from the darkest of times and reflects in the half-light that comes with the dawning of adulthood, expect a shimmering, sensory and sensitive album that shows a band whose bounds know no limits.
