Bad Bad Hats ~ Pronoun

AGE RESTRICTION: Only Ages 21+ can purchase tickets for this show. NO REFUNDS/EXCHANGES for anyone underage who purchases or attempts to use these tickets. Doors: 7:00 PM Show: 7:30 PM Bad Bad Hats The Minneapolis, Minnesota duo Bad Bad Hats are named after a little-known song from “Madeline,” a beloved children’s book series about a mischievous young girl and her yellow-clad classmates. Founded by singer/songwriter Kerry Alexander and guitarist Chris Hoge, the band traffics in similarly playful concepts and warm scenes of youth. Bad Bad Hats are celebrated for crispy, lived-in melodies, big choruses that stick for days, and an easy musicianship that carries across their eclectic, wide-ranging releases. The band’s lead singer Kerry Alexander grew up between Tampa, Florida and Birmingham, Alabama. As a child, she was a student of the glossy MTV pop that defined the early 2000s, as well as the David Bowie and Tom Petty CDs her parents would play while making dinner. Singer songwriters like Alanis Morissette, Kim Deal, and later, Michelle Branch, were an early inspiration for Kerry: after discovering songwriting as a profession while watching American Idol, the young teenaged Kerry began filling binders with songs, planning to one day write hit records for stars. As her confidence grew, Kerry began testing her performance chops at open mic nights, and eventually began sharing demos on Myspace, where she first connected with Chris Hoge, a savvy guitarist and classmate at the small liberal arts school Macalester College. The pair’s chemistry was undeniable, sharing common tastes in songwriting and sound, and they flourished creatively–and, soon, as a couple. They refined demos together and gigged around the Twin Cities, where they received consistently strong responses from friends who’d come to their shows. Soon, Kerry and Chris were assembling their first EP, “It Hurts,” and catching the ear of local indie labels. After fleshing out the line up with bassist Noah Boswell, Bad Bad Hats was officially born. “Psychic Reader,” BBH’s debut LP, arrived in 2015. Led by the ebullient single “Midway,” the album highlighted the band’s cinematic sound, punchy rhythm sections, and Kerry’s heart-aching vocals. With “Psychic Reader,” the band expanded their audience beyond local Twin Cities venues, as their music spread organically via college radio and shared links. New fans seemed to discover the music daily, their growth coincided with a renaissance in young bedroom musicians via streaming through the 2010s. With their follow up full length albums “Lightning Round” (2018) and “Walkman” (2021), Bad Bad Hats expanded their sound and look, with hilariously DIY music videos that cast the band as ice hockey players, Elvis impersonators, secret agents and more. In the years since their initial noodling around St. Paul, Bad Bad Hats have toured globally with peers like The Beths and Hippo Campus, and storied acts like The Front Bottoms and the aforementioned Michelle Branch, who picked them up for her 2022 headlining world tour. It was a full-circle moment for Kerry, one that she made clear on stage at each show.PronounWhat once seemed like a fever to Vellturo has evolved into a nearly a decade journey and a full fledged career as PRONOUN. Started back in 2015 in the corner of her Bushwick apartment, Vellturo was struck with sudden heartbreak, deeming the creation of PRONOUN and her debut EP the only thing that kept her from destroying herself.

Doors: 7:00 PM Show: 7:30 PMCosmic PsychosThe Cosmic Psychos are (almost) an Australian punk rock institution who formed in Spring Plains, Victoria in 1982, spearheaded by founding member and bass player Ross Knight. To date, the band have released 10  studio albums since their self-titled debut (1987) and their influence has been global, with UK band The Prodigy sampling their music on 1997’s ‘The Fat of the Land’ LP and Nirvana producer Butch Vig proclaiming them an influence on both Nirvana and the Seattle grunge scene of the 1990’s. In 2009, Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam spoke candidly of the effect the band had on him growing up in Seattle. The band’s repetitive lyrics, fuzzed out guitar and wah-wah bass sound has remained unchanged over their 30 plus year career and continues to win over new audiences. A documentary by film maker Matt Weston, released in 2013, titled ‘Blokes You Can Trust’ featured a whose who of global indie tastemakers and music makers espousing the Cosmic Psycho’s legacy in Australian musical history. The documentary has given the band new life and they currently find themselves fielding touring and interview requests as far flung as Spain, Germany and Costa Rica. https://www.cosmicpsychos.com.au/Nine Pound HammerForming in Owensboro, Kentucky in 1986, Nine Pound Hammer, originally known as the Black Sheep, became a pivotal band in the “cowpunk” scene. Led by guitarist Blaine Cartwright and vocalist Scott Luallen, they are known for their raucous, over-the-top blend of punk rock, hard rock, and country, paving the way for alt-country in the late ’80s and early ’90s.The Company CorvetteFormed in 2005 The Company Corvette has shared the stage with countless legendary acts–Weedeater, Pentagram, The Obsessed, The Mentors, and Truckfighters to name a few– blasting fans with their heavy stoner rock. This new album showcases the band’s pursuit of their singular vision. Covering the spectrum from misery laden doom, sludgy weirdness, heavy metal, dumb’n’fun rock’n’roll. Thumping double-bass beats and crunchy guitar riffs hammer out hard-hitting rhythms while chorus lines partner with sparking retro synth tones for a stunning mix of audio ideas. An electrifying, hybrid powerhouse, he bridges the sounds of industrial and pop through “infectious hooks” and serves up an expansive pop exhibition of fashion, video, and art.  Dubbed as the “industrial pop idol” and featured on Billboard, Alternative Press, The Huffington Post, NewNowNext amongst many others; Danny Blu began his career with stunning shock-rock performances in queer nightlife leading to the formation of the band, Echo Black. AIRIEL ~ BLUSHING ~ BODYWASH

*All events are 21+ valid ID required for entry* 7 PM – Doors8 PM – Show AIRIELActive since the late 90’s, the Chicago-based group’s lush washes of effects-heavy guitars and yearning vocals recall U.K. shoegaze acts like Kitchens of Distinction and Ride, and American indie songwriters like Bob Mould.  The group released a series of four Winks and Kisses EPs in 2003 and 2004, then sporadically resurfaced with the albums The Battle of Sealand (2007) and Molten Young Lovers (2017).  Winks and Kisses was remastered for a 20th anniversary deluxe reissue in 2023.  The 20th anniversary deluxe edition included demos dating back to the group’s 1997 formation and several previously unreleased songs.  ~ Paul Simpson BLUSHINGOn their recently completed third LP, Sugarcoat (releasing May 3, 2024), Blushing’s dynamism is on full display, flitting effortlessly from spacey psychedelia to twee pop jangle with finesse and panache. Having once again enlisted Ringo Deathstarr’s Elliot Frazier and Ride’s Mark Gardener for engineering, mixing, and mastering duties, Sugarcoat is a dense, reverb-laden exploration of alt rock’s 40+ year history that conjures up concord from chaos. Whether it’s the post-punk-tinged “Seafoam” (which happens to feature Jeff Schroeder on lead guitar) or the hypnotic psych of “Slyce”, Blushing weaves a cohesive musical arc that effortlessly blends their disparate influences into a sonic watermark that is unmistakably their own. BODYWASHBodywash formed in 2014 as a vehicle for the sonic bond between Chris Steward and Rosie Long Decter. The Montreal duo conjure a dreamscape with airy vocals, intricate guitars and pulsating synths over a heavy rhythmic foundation. In 2019, they released their debut LP, Comforter, which received praise from Bandcamp Daily, NPR, Clash Mag and elsewhere.  The sophomore LP finds the band experimenting with glitching drones and cascading vocals while exploring themes of dislocation and decay. In support of the record, the duo has played a series of headlining dates across North America as well as festival spots at SXSW, Treefort Fest, Sled Island and more.
