Monolord ~ Firebreather ~ Heavy Temple at Underground Arts

MONOLORD (Sweden)Swedish power trio MONOLORD return with their highly anticipated new album, Your Time to Shine. Recorded by MONOLORD drummer Esben Willems at Studio Berserk, Your Time to Shine sees the trio looking inward, cultivating the elements that take their monstrous, heavy riffing to new heights with a darker edge. A five-track journey that spans across crushing doom rock to more spacey, groove laden opuses, Your Time to Shine is MONOLORD at their most unfiltered and focused. Out of the gate, MONOLORD kick-off a wild ride with the soaring, fist-raising opener “The Weary” and its insanely catchy melodies. Elsewhere, the stop/start switch between sweetness and abrasiveness of “To Each Their Own” showcases a new element to the band’s repertoire. MONOLORD embraces the power of the riff with pulsating chugs on “I’ll Be Damned” and the mind-expanding title-track, whose final section brings back some of the band’s spaced-out rock n’ roll beginnings. Everything culminates in their new epic, “The Siren Of Yersinia”, whose lonesome call can be heard in each feedback-ridden note and in each pained, buried vocal line. Your Time to Shine is yet another turn for MONOLORD. While the band clearly stays on “Riff Street”, they are poised to find darker avenues.https://monolord.bandcamp.com/album/your-time-to-shineFIREBREATHER (Sweden)Gothenburg, Sweden trio Firebreather’s 2019 RidingEasy Records debut album Under a Blood Moon was a powerhouse that most certainly established the band’s incendiary potential. But none of us would be prepared for the suffocating onslaught that is Dwell in the Fog. While that album was in-your-face and raw, Dwell in the Fog rumbles and rages with a fury the band had only hinted at previously.Firebreather has a streamlined focus on driving, symphonic riffs in the vein of High on Fire, Inter Arma and their tour- and label-mates Monolord. The guitar and bass tones are, quite simply, entrancing. Paired with vocalist/guitarist Mattias Nööjd’s guttural yet melodic howls and drummer Axel Wittbeck’s groove based rhythms, their entire sound flows like thick, viscous lava.https://firebreatherdoom.bandcamp.com/HEAVY TEMPLEEvil honey from a magic mountain.https://heavytemple.bandcamp.com/album/lupi-amoris *Proof of Covid-19 vaccination required for entry* *Attendees are encouraged to wear masks while not actively drinking* In accordance with Philadelphia’s citywide mandate, attendees will be required to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination for entry to all Dave Kiss Presents events. Vio-Lence ~ Coroner + Many More (2 Stages) at Underground Arts

VIO-LENCEReunited San Francisco Bay Area thrashers VIO-LENCE will release a new EP, “Let The World Burn”, in early 2022 via Metal Blade Records. The effort was recorded at Trident Studios in Pacheco, California with producer Juan Urteaga, who has previously worked with TESTAMENT, MACHINE HEAD and EXODUS, among many others. Mixing duties were handled by Tue Madsen.CORONERCoroner was one of those underrated metal bands, mostly known to hardcore fans. Often labelled a thrash band, their music went far beyond what is usually thought of as thrash metal. Releasing five albums and a semi-compilation in eight years – from the unpolished and technical speed of 1987’s “R.I.P.”, the complexity of 1988’s „Punishment for Decadence“, the technical quality of 1989’s „No More Color“ and its derivative „Mental Vortex“ from 1991 to the heavier and more laidback style of “Grin” – the band progressed consistently, without ever losing their identity. Composed of only three members – Tommy Vetterli (guitar), Marky Edelmann (drums) and Ron Broder (bass/vocals) – Coroner stood out of the metal scene with outstanding musicianship, creativity, raw power, technical skills and innovation. PLUS MANY SPECIAL GUESTS (TWO STAGES!) In accordance with Philadelphia’s citywide mandate, attendees will be required to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination for entry to all Dave Kiss Presents events. Plague Years ~ Somnuri ~ Dissentience ~ Morbid Cross at Kung Fu Necktie

PLAGUE YEARSLike an icepick to the face, PLAGUE YEARS arrives with an electric surge of sudden pain. An unrelenting end of the world assault of the cataclysmic convergence of thrash and hardcore, with bits of blackened death and midtempo madness to spare, the Detroit master blasters are here to crash the crossover party. Summoning the primitive spirit of the singular moment when the heaviest of metal first smashed into a circle pit, PLAGUE YEARS reignite the flame with sharp fury. The devilish and down-tuned death worship within PLAGUE YEARS serves as a demonic calling card for the Detroit foursome, a brutal counterbalance to their otherwise likeminded thrash revivalists. On Circle of Darkness, the band’s full-length debut, PLAGUE YEARS reunite with engineer Arthur Rizk, whose work with Power Trip, Tomb Mold, Candy, and Cavalera Conspiracy has propelled him to the front of the horde amidst the resurgence of crossover thrash.SOMNURI Drawn out of a unique, creative vision and driven by a deep passion for all things heavy, Somnuri aren’t your typical Brooklyn sludge metal band. While fans of High On Fire, Mastodon, Kvelertak and Torche may fall in love, Somnuri bring so much more to the table than the mere sum of their parts; shying away from tropes and committing instead to a determined, iconoclastic approach. Musical liberation was on full display for their self-titled, Magnetic Eye Records released debut, which received rave reviews. Suffice it to say, fans of heavy music near and far are excited for the release of the band’s upcoming second LP, “Nefarious Wave”, slated for 2021.DISSENTIENCEThough the forges of the Bethlehem Steel have long been extinguished, Dissentience is here to prove that the steel town still has plenty of metal to offer. Since its inception, the four-piece death-thrash act has set out to bring their unique blend of speed, groove, and unfiltered aggression to the masses across the tri-state area and northeast U.S. The release of the band’s 2018 EP Mask of Pretense brought forth praise both from fans and critics alike, with Decibel Magazine calling it “relentless, technical and melodic.” An explosive showcase of energy and precision, Dissentience’s live performance took them to the Viper Room after winning the East Coast leg of the Wacken Metal Battle USA in 2019. Entering the scene with unmatched intensity and a sound that already screams “unique,” the take-no-prisoners attitude of Dissentience is indisputable and made even more apparent on their upcoming album.https://dissentience.bandcamp.com/album/empire-anatomyMORBID CROSSThrash metal from Southern New Jersey. Front Line Assembly ~ Rein ~ SYZYGYX ~ DJ Mighty Mike Saga

FRONT LINE ASSEMBLYAs genre progenitors pushing beat-driven industrial, corrosive metal, and electronic body music in the late ’80s and early ’90s, Front Line Assembly helped formulate this hybrid style before acts like carried it into the mainstream. Initially, FLA dealt with the dark synth atmospherics heard on their official debut, 1987’s The Initial Command. The addition of EBM dance beats followed, heard on releases such as 1989’s Gashed Senses & Crossfire and 1992’s Tactical Neural Implant. As the genre incorporated more metal influences, so did the band, who injected jagged guitar riffs and aggressive sampling on 1994’s Millennium. After returning focus to electronic, techno-oriented beats, FLA entered the 21st century with a trio of releases that landed the group on the Billboard charts for the first time with 2006’s Artificial Soldier. They repeated the feat in 2010 with Improvised. Electronic. Device. before turning their attention to video game soundtracks on AirMech (2012) and WarMech (2018). FLA closed the decade with 2019’s Wake Up the Coma. REINREIN is the Stockholm based award nominated electronic project by Joanna Reinikainen. The artist, singer, producer, songwriter and label owner of REIN RECORDINGS. She was kicking off her career in 2016, came out of nowhere with her self-titled EP and following through with the “Freedoom” EP in 2017 were she collaborated with the death electro founder (Owl Vision) SYZYGYX Luna Blanc as a solo producer and vocalist of this project, lives to transcend her emotions through her music. Bleak post apocalyptic soundscapes fused with retro pop biting synth lines and minor scale hooks fuel the sound of S Y Z Y G Y  https://syzygy-x.bandcamp.com   DJ MIGHTY MIKE SAGA Vortex! /// iLoveIndustrial – Philly PA https://soundcloud.com/mightymikesaga

Ed Schrader’s Music Beat ~ Evil Sword at Kung Fu Necktie

*All events are 21+ valid ID required for entry*7 PM Doors8 PM MusicEd Schrader’s Music Beat With a single EP as an a cappella screamer-crooner to his name, Ed Schrader brought on bassist Devlin Rice to form the two-piece Ed Schrader’s Music Beat after the two met on the legendary 2008 Baltimore Round Robin tour. Rice’s presence instantly brought aesthetic focus to Schrader’s disparate musical tendencies. The primal screams were made driving and heavy and the visionary chants became post-new wave mood pieces. The evolution is unmissable on their first two records as a duo, Jazz Mind (2012) and Party Jail (2014). On the Dan Deacon-produced Riddles (2018), the band exploded their sonic palette with the addition of synthesizers, player piano and a dedicated percussionist bringing to life a tracklist produced and co-written by Dan Deacon. Upon its release, the record garnered widespread acclaim. NPR called it an “odd and captivating piece of work.” Pitchfork called it “a defining point in their career.” Rolling Stone praised it as “a noise-punk album that bursts with psychedelic twists.” SPIN called it “a memorable and eclectic record … one that can bleed and weep and still make you want to get up and scream.” Since 2010, the duo has mounted TK NUMBER tours across the U.S. and Europe both as a headliner and in support of major acts Beach House, Future Islands and Dan Deacon. They’ve shared bills with No Age, Lightning Bolt, Matmos and Ceremony. Evil SwordDeep inside the hideous forest, between life and death, laughter and slaughter, you’ll find Evil Sword. Their chaotic live shows combine elements of noise, performance art, and gallows humor. Vocalist Kate Ferencz and bassist Ben Furgal carve out a shadowy world of percussive horrors. Bells and idyllic whistles give birth to otherworldly squeals and squawks which soon degenerate into cries of anguish and rattling chains. Will you scream in terror or dance in delight as the world burns?

The Pack A.D. ~ The Size at Kung Fu Necktie

The Pack A.D. Destruction and melody, acid wit and bruising vocals-this is the Pack A.D. Singer/guitarist Becky Black and drummer Maya Miller have made a sound so gigantic, so fierce and raw and empowering, that it’s easy to forget there are just two people behind this brilliant, carefully constructed havoc. Shredding and pounding their way through every song, the Pack A.D. swallows you whole inside their fearless Franken-blend of heavy psychpop/garage-rock. Their lyrics are wild nests, human and complex: darkly funny disclosures about depression; indictments of digital excess; grief-stricken fire bombs; sly crusades against stupidity.   In accordance with Philadelphia’s citywide mandate, attendees will be required to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination for entry to all Dave Kiss Presents events. Please note that negative PCR / antigen test results will not be accepted. We ask that you bring your vaccination card, a copy of your vaccination card, or a legible photo of your vaccination card on your phone. Hot Flash Heat Wave ~ Small Crush ~ Similar Kind at Kung Fu Necktie

Hot Flash Heat Wave The San Francisco trio of Adam Abildgaard, Nick Duffy, and Ted Davis have built a loyal following and constant buzz over the last several years, with the 2019 EP ‘Mood Ring’ standing as their most kaleidoscopic work to date. Merging the quintessential melodies of pop’s past with contemporary touches to forge something truly unique, Hot Flash Heat Wave is just starting to create their own sonic world. Last year’s EP launched the group into a realm entirely different from their previous catalogue. It is their truest-to-heart release yet, synthesizing a wide range of influences encompassing My Bloody Valentine, Frank Ocean, New Order, and Toro y Moi into something that sounds new and refreshing. Mood Ring’s lead single “Glo Ride” bounces with a slight R&B tilt against a dark, trippy atmosphere, while “Sky So Blue” finds the band spiralling into full-on psychedelia, complete with layers of spell-casting keyboards and a wonderfully zonked-out breakdown. And the future only seems brighter from here: with September’s single ‘Grudge’ teasing a 2021 LP, Hot Flash Heat Wave is preparing for the next step up the staircase in their colorful sonic journey, with determination to elevate their craft in the process. Mock Orange ~ Fire in the Radio at Kung Fu Necktie

Mock Orange Mock Orange was founded in Southern Indiana back in 1994. Their 1998 album “Nines and Sixes” was met with critical acclaim. It placed the group on national college radio charts and established a loyal fanbase. The band has since worked with such producers as Mark Trombino (Jimmy Eat World/Blink 182), J. Robbins (Jawbox/Jets to Brazil/Clutch), and Grammy Award winner Jeremy Ferguson (Cage The Elephant/Lambchop). The next 10 subsequent records solidified their standing as an innovative, genre blurring band. Currently, Mock Orange continues to release albums and EP’s, tour the U.S., Europe and Japan, and amass a consistently growing cult following. Fire in the Radio Fire in the Radio released their sophomore album New Air on May 5th via Wednesday Records. The album is the follow-up to their 2015 acclaimed record Telemetry. New Air finds the band pushing their unique brand of indie-punk in a fresh direction incorporating elements of new wave, grunge, and shoegaze drone into tightly crafted pop songs. The result is a notably darker effort than Telemetry, and proves to be the bands most ambitious and successful collection of songs to date. New Air was recorded at Gradwell House studios (Beach Slang, Into It. Over It.) and mixed by Jesse Gander (Japandroids, White Lung). Fire in the Radio began work on New Air following significant touring in support of 2015’s Telemetry, which included performances at Gainesville, Florida’s FEST and Montreal’s Pouzza Fest.
