Liam Kazar ~ Good Things Take Time at Silk City

*Proof of Covid-19 vaccination required for entry* *Attendees are encouraged to wear masks while not actively drinking* LIAM KAZARLiam Kazar makes joyful rock songs so irresistible they feel timeless. Just ask Jeff Tweedy. “I love everything about Liam. His voice, his songs, the way he plays instruments, his smile, his cooking… Everything,” says Tweedy. ”Whenever I hear one of his songs for the first time I almost immediately start thinking to myself, ‘oh yeah! This song! I love this song.’ It’s a magic trick very few people can pull off: making something brand new sound like a cherished memory.” But on Kazar’s debut album Due North, out August 6 via Mare Records, the LP’s 10 tracks are full of so much charm, wit, and heart it can’t be a sleight of hand.GOOD THINGS TAKE TIME Music stylings of a Philly based psychedelic sludge duo. Pip Blom ~ Catcher at Kung Fu Necktie

PIP BLOM Amsterdam’s Pip Blom released their debut album ‘Boat’ on Friday 31st May 2019.Pip’s in a very interesting space sonically; with the help of a dedicated band, Pip has evolved her sound away from simple, hooky tunes to expertly-crafted songs with unassuming depth. Although, she’d never actually admit to it. She’s too modest. “I hope that if you listen to Boat, you can hear the different routes we explored…We took our time and it was quite a journey, but I think it was time for us to finally release an album,” says Pip. “We’ve grown so much as a band, both live and in terms of songwriting. Our boat hasn’t reached its final destination yet, but if think with releasing this album, it’s a great pit stop.”CATCHERCatcher is a Brooklyn-based post-punk band with a reputation for visceral and powerful live performances. Drawing comparisons to the birthday party, sonic youth and the fall, catcher delivers music with a driving and inundating low-end, provided by childhood friends Cameron Mcrae and Wilson Chestney, on bass and drums respectively. Guitarists Jack Young and Christian Reech interweave melodies and noise to create an environment that manages to be at once both bleak and moving, desolate but hopeful, violent but tender. Classically trained violinist Zach Mezzo brings, through his background in experimental composition, a combination of moody swells, driving staccatos, and vicious noise that enrich and accentuate the dynamics and dramatics inherent to the band’s songwriting. Vocalist Austin Eichler commands listeners with a domineering and chaotic presence. From drawling croons to powerful screams, Austin’s narrative lyrics invoke a wide spectrum of emotion while creating a world of their own. Through endless hours of practice and work the band has crafted a gripping and tight live performance and a growing international fanbase.

The Reverend Horton Heat ~ Koffin Kats ~ Rocky Kaminski

The Reverend Horton Heat With their hot-rodded fusion of dazzling high-speed guitar runs, thundering rhythms, high-profile swagger, and lyrical smirk, the Reverend Horton Heat are perhaps the most popular psychobilly artists of all time, their recognition rivaled only by the esteem generated by the genre’s founders, . The Reverend (as both the band and its guitar-playing frontman are known) built a strong cult following during the ’90s through constant touring, manic showmanship, and a barbed sense of humor. The latter was nothing new in the world of psychobilly, of course, and Heat’s music certainly maintained the trashy aesthetic of his spiritual forebears. The Reverend’s true innovation was updating the psychobilly sound for the alternative rock era. In their hands, it had roaring distorted guitars, rocked as hard as any punk band, and didn’t look exclusively to the pop culture of the past for its style or subject matter. Most of the Reverend’s lyrics were gonzo celebrations of sex, drugs, booze, and cars, and true to his name, his early concerts often featured mock sermons in the style of a rural revivalist preacher. On their 1992 debut Smoke ‘Em If You Got ‘Em, the group established the template of their no-frills, high-intensity approach to rockabilly, and though celebrity producers helped beef up the sound of their next two albums — of on 1993’s The Full Custom Gospel Sounds and ‘s on 1994’s Liquor in the Front — the Reverend’s essential style changed little with time. They would explore a more introspective side on 2004’s Revival, embrace their country influences on 2009’s Laughin’ & Cryin’ with the Reverend Horton Heat, and add a pianist to the mix on 2018’s Whole New Life, but on-stage and in the studio, Jim Heath and his bandmates could always be depended upon to deliver some of the twangy fire that their fans loved. Escape From the Zoo ~ Public Serpents ~ The Looms

ESCAPE FROM THE ZOO“Escape From the Zoo are one of those bands where you are expecting a mellow trip down Mr. Toads wild ride, and suddenly realize you accidentally got in line for a death coaster that speeds down the track at 70 miles per hour, with no seat belts” – PunkRock Newshttps://escapefromthezoo.bandcamp.com/PUBLIC SERPENTSPublic Serpents are the product of an experiment gone wrong, mankind. Stinking Lizaveta ~ Microwaves ~ Faking at Kung Fu Necktie

*All events are 21+ valid ID required for entry*7 PM Doors7:30 PM ShowSTINKING LIZAVETAStinking Lizaveta is a power trio from Philadelphia, categorized as “doomjazz.”MICROWAVESOf innumerable bands that traffic in dissonance, the musick of Pittsburgh, PA’s Microwaves’ shears clean and hot as an oxy-lance through the defenses of even the most cynical noise rock aficionado. The trio plies a no-wave/prog-thrash scree that evokes the doings of today’s renegade wetware punks who shove glass-sheathed RFID chips and rare-earth magnets into fresh incisions – dimensions away from the bluesy shot-and-beer heartland rock of their local bar scene. Bursting forth with 2001’s “Professional Systems Overload” EP and the following year’s “System 2” (both featuring original bassist/vocalist Steve Moore, now of ZOMBI) John Roman (drums, formerly of the 1985, and current member of Night Vapor and Brown Angel) and David Kuzy (guitar, vocals) cycled through bass players for several years (including a stint as a synth/sampler-augmented duo) before joining with Johnny Arlett for their longest-running lineup to date. Over the years, Microwaves continued to pick up the loose ends left by Voivod, MX-80, Snakefinger, and some of their own Pittsburgh-area “math-rock” contemporaries, twisting them into a Gordian knot that at once rages and confounds. Their latest album, “Via Weightlessness,” tones down their previous effects-heavy approach, charging lean and unabated toward their dystopian vision. Kuzy’s guitar chimes through the mix with spindly atonal runs more akin to data streams spat from an outdated mainframe, alternately careening into chugging, crossover-thrash riffs. The Roman/Arlett rhythm section is much more than the sum of its parts: Beefheartian clamor served up with cyborg precision underpins overdriven bass, rumbling forth frenziedly as a DMT-dosed rhino. Kuzy, the paranoid town crier, and Arlett, the unhinged shrieker, deliver a twin-vocal assault covering most topics previously found in your local video rental shop’s cult/sci-fi section. FAKINGFAKING is a noise rock trio from Philadelphia that blends angular aggression, brooding filth, and mathy weirdness. Giant pounding drums, biting bass synth, and harsh guitar riffs that bleed into reverb drenched seasick leads create the odd-time foundation while vocals scream and holler about shitty people doing shitty things.

Clan of Xymox at Johnny Brenda’s

CLAN OF XYMOXSince their formation in their native Holland their music has been constantly changing, always challenging and often quite breathtaking. Some of us have always been of the opinion that XYMOX are something special. A band fired by electronic music but determined, always, to make something that is very much their own. They are unique. Clan of Xymox, during the years released many hit and cult albums since their signing with 4AD (UK) . Later signed to Universal Music (USA) and now Trisol (EU) & Metropolis Records (USA). THE BELLWETHER SYNDICATEFormed in 2012, THE BELLWETHER SYNDICATE is fronted by veteran artist William Faith (vocals/guitars), and Sarah Rose Faith (vocals/guitars). While the studio recordings are made by William and Sarah alone, the live lineup includes Paul Sin (bass) and Philly Peroxide (keyboards/percussion) and Stevyn Grey (drums). The band have always sought to color outside of prescribed genre lines, endeavoring to push past the boundaries of style into something substantial and vital. VOSHHailing from Washington DC, Chris Moore (Repulsion, Coke Bust, The Rememberables), and Josephine Olivia (Blacksage, Vosh) formed Aertex in 2018. Bringing elements of goth, post-punk, and darkwave together in their debut 2-song demo “Superstition”. In the short period of time being a band they have already played shows with The Psychedelic Furs, Boy Harsher, She Past Away, Gost, SRSQ, Unmaker and many others. *Proof of Covid-19 vaccination required for entry* *Attendees are encouraged to wear masks while not actively drinking* In accordance with Philadelphia’s citywide mandate, attendees will be required to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination for entry to all Dave Kiss Presents events.
