The Pack A.D. ~ The Size at Kung Fu Necktie

The Pack A.D. Destruction and melody, acid wit and bruising vocals-this is the Pack A.D. Singer/guitarist Becky Black and drummer Maya Miller have made a sound so gigantic, so fierce and raw and empowering, that it’s easy to forget there are just two people behind this brilliant, carefully constructed havoc. Shredding and pounding their way through every song, the Pack A.D. swallows you whole inside their fearless Franken-blend of heavy psychpop/garage-rock. Their lyrics are wild nests, human and complex: darkly funny disclosures about depression; indictments of digital excess; grief-stricken fire bombs; sly crusades against stupidity.   In accordance with Philadelphia’s citywide mandate, attendees will be required to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination for entry to all Dave Kiss Presents events. Hot Flash Heat Wave ~ Small Crush ~ Similar Kind at Kung Fu Necktie

Hot Flash Heat Wave The San Francisco trio of Adam Abildgaard, Nick Duffy, and Ted Davis have built a loyal following and constant buzz over the last several years, with the 2019 EP ‘Mood Ring’ standing as their most kaleidoscopic work to date. Merging the quintessential melodies of pop’s past with contemporary touches to forge something truly unique, Hot Flash Heat Wave is just starting to create their own sonic world. Last year’s EP launched the group into a realm entirely different from their previous catalogue. It is their truest-to-heart release yet, synthesizing a wide range of influences encompassing My Bloody Valentine, Frank Ocean, New Order, and Toro y Moi into something that sounds new and refreshing. Mood Ring’s lead single “Glo Ride” bounces with a slight R&B tilt against a dark, trippy atmosphere, while “Sky So Blue” finds the band spiralling into full-on psychedelia, complete with layers of spell-casting keyboards and a wonderfully zonked-out breakdown. And the future only seems brighter from here: with September’s single ‘Grudge’ teasing a 2021 LP, Hot Flash Heat Wave is preparing for the next step up the staircase in their colorful sonic journey, with determination to elevate their craft in the process. Mock Orange ~ Fire in the Radio at Kung Fu Necktie

Mock Orange Mock Orange was founded in Southern Indiana back in 1994. Their 1998 album “Nines and Sixes” was met with critical acclaim. It placed the group on national college radio charts and established a loyal fanbase. The band has since worked with such producers as Mark Trombino (Jimmy Eat World/Blink 182), J. Robbins (Jawbox/Jets to Brazil/Clutch), and Grammy Award winner Jeremy Ferguson (Cage The Elephant/Lambchop). The next 10 subsequent records solidified their standing as an innovative, genre blurring band. Currently, Mock Orange continues to release albums and EP’s, tour the U.S., Europe and Japan, and amass a consistently growing cult following. Fire in the Radio Fire in the Radio released their sophomore album New Air on May 5th via Wednesday Records. The album is the follow-up to their 2015 acclaimed record Telemetry. New Air finds the band pushing their unique brand of indie-punk in a fresh direction incorporating elements of new wave, grunge, and shoegaze drone into tightly crafted pop songs. The result is a notably darker effort than Telemetry, and proves to be the bands most ambitious and successful collection of songs to date. New Air was recorded at Gradwell House studios (Beach Slang, Into It. Over It.) and mixed by Jesse Gander (Japandroids, White Lung). Fire in the Radio began work on New Air following significant touring in support of 2015’s Telemetry, which included performances at Gainesville, Florida’s FEST and Montreal’s Pouzza Fest.

Sean Nicholas Savage ~ Air Waves ~ Johnny Dynamite ~ Suburban Losers at Kung Fu Necktie

Sean Nicholas Savage’s Spring 2022 Life Is Crazy, the accurately titled new record from Sean Nicholas Savage, is unlike anything we’ve heard from the cult balladeer. No drums or bass on the album, the accompaniment consists strictly of pure piano and lush strings, leaving Savage’s songwriting bare to the listener like never before. “for a fresh direction here, i’ve attempted to reduce the focus to just songwriting and singing. particularly contemplative ballads, which through the years remain closest to my heart. i’ve aimed for a vocal spirit and energy that closely resembles my live performance, which is an integral part of my identity as an artist not always represented in my recorded work.” Life Is Crazy is a bold and attuned record. Conceived in his transition to theatre, it marks the dawn of a new era for SNS, and a long-awaiting return to the full-length LP format. This will be Savage’s first album release since completing a revered master-cassette trilogy – Magnificent Fist (2016), Yummycoma (2017), and Screamo (2018). Lyrically, Savage grapples with his signature themes of perception, identity, and the unknown, among others. While still abstract, the metaphors and subject matter are effortless and more inviting than ever before. New to Life Is Crazy is a narrative tone removed from time. “there is this thing on the album where i was trying to write to the future to an audience that doesn’t exist. you know, we’ve talked many times about how an audience is exponential, as we see what is niche or outsider today is often more popular tomorrow. there’s a lot of that in ‘years from tonight’ which really sums up how we never know those future versions of ourselves. Also the album closer ‘in the silence of the crowd’ depicts just how invisible that can feel. That resonates in a few of the other songs too so i thought it was a cool thing to touch on since it feels sometimes like the only hopeful glimmer these days.”AIR WAVESNicole first found solace in her guitar, composing escapist songs with fantastical stories and catchy choruses.  Air Waves serves up fantastic imagery with unforgettable melodies.  You will no doubt catch yourself, hours later, singing them.  Schneit writes the viral melodies that, neither sloppy nor generic, follow you through a day or two before you’re drawn back to listen to them again.JOHNNY DYNAMITEhttps://open.spotify.com/artist/0HvUV5FFd0Z9zrhPH3Q4Lf?si=jZ3nbkeHRGqyZsuL7_vyjwSUBURBAN LOSERSSuburban Losers is a DJ team consisting of Wesley Bunch of Suburban Living & Michael Cammarata of Born Losers Records. Cerebral Rot ~ Left Cross ~ Gravesend ~ Outer Heaven at Kung Fu Necktie

CEREBRAL ROTAscending from the odious decay of their first LP, Cerebral Rot passes from animal to human contagion with a new more purulent virus on ‘Excretion Of Mortality’. A return of such festering decrepitude and anatomical canker as befits the true adherents of vile and sick underground Death Metal.LEFT CROSS”But the shelling is stronger than everything. It wipes out the sensibilities, I merely crawl still deeper in the coffin, it should protect me, and especially as Death himself lies in it too.”GRAVESENDNYC’s Gravesend arise with ill intent like a foul emanation from the aging sewage filled rot slowly winding its way beneath the city’s vast concrete walls and pavement pathways. A New York of discarded needles, noxious fumes, scavenging rats, broken bottles and cracked minds.OUTER HEAVEN Pulverizing Death from the backwoods of Pennsylvania.

Point North ~ Lil Lotus ~ Concrete Castles ~ Cherie Amour at Kung Fu Necktie

POINT NORTHPoint North is building a new world, one positive, tangible action at a time. With their debut album, Brand New Vision – released in August 2020, Point North embraces an alternate reality that celebrates a break from predictability and normalcy for a world that is uncomfortable, a world that has meaning, a world in color – a place to feel something. LIL LOTUSWhen you see Lil Lotus, you don’t necessarily think he’d have the voice of an angel. You might think the tattooed, crazy haired guy might be nothing but trouble. But instead of being someone who yells through their pain, Lotus sings his. And when he does, the melodies are ungodly beautiful, even if the lyrics are not. Lotus has had his share of hard times in his short life. The cognitive dissonance between his heavenly vocals and his heavy lyrics is very much on purpose. CONCRETE CASTLESPennsylvania-bred rock band Concrete Castles took their name from one of the first songs they ever wrote together, a wildly cathartic anthem called “Thrill” As frontwoman Audra Miller reveals, the song was inspired by the pure joy that she and her bandmates Matt Yost (guitar) and Sam Gilman (drums) have found in chasing their dreams with no backup plan, a sentiment that’s fully reflected in the track’s radiant energy and triumphant gang vocals. With its shimmering guitar tones and massively catchy hooks, “Thrill” perfectly captures the essence of Concrete Castles’ sound—an ultravivid collision of alt-rock and pop, immaculately crafted but emotionally raw.CHERIE AMOURCherie Amour, Baltimore, Maryland’s nu-punk pioneers, are utilizing an exciting opportunity for a fresh start. Previously known as One Life to Lead, Trey Miller (vocals), Casey Reid (guitar), Brendan Willis (guitar) and Ronnie Sherman (drums), felt that their group’s evolving style and sound deserved a name that matched their overall style. This evolved sound, one that steps away from classic pop punk and the idea of being a “Warped Tour Band”, helps clarify the band’s intended direction of carving their own path in the scene.

Juan Wauters + R.A.P. Ferreira at First Unitarian Church

R.A.P. FERREIRAR.A.P. Ferreira fka milo aka scallops hotel is an mc, producer and theorist working in the Black arts tradition commonly categorized as rap. Having founded the label ruby yacht in 2015 and since releasing all of his music through this channel, Ferreira has earned a sizable following within independent hip hop by rigorous, constant touring and an elevated, explorational style of performance. He is known for an uncompromised, utopic flow that speaks directly to the root of the listener.  By 2018, the young artist galvanized his presence in the American rap scene with the opening of Soulfolks Records & Tapes in Biddeford, Maine. Ferreira has a sprawling, limitless catalog ranging years, names, geographies, intentions, collaborations, and vocabularies.   In an era defined by keyword search, soundbyte, cosign, marketing and virality this artist’s work stands out by not cow tailing to the movements and trends of the digital sphere. https://afrolab9000.bandcamp.com/JUAN WAUTERS We think we know what we want. The digital age has made it easier than ever for us to get it – we can search, skip, and customize to our hearts’ content. But something is lost in this exchange – without an external perspective, how can we know what we’re missing? Juan Wauters understands this. It’s why he’s such a big fan of radio – it takes some of the power out of our hands, opening us up to new sounds, new possibilities. This is the effect he sought to reproduce on his fifth album, Real Life Situations, a multifaceted ode to surrendering control and taking life as it comes. References to radio abound on its 21 tracks, and with good reason – the album spans genres, narrators, languages, and perspectives with the ease of spinning a rotary knob. https://juanwauters.bandcamp.com/album/real-life-situationsSHA RAYSha Ray is a rapper and multi-instrumentalist from Indianapolis, IN currently based out of San Francisco, CA. The Body ~ Midwife ~ Sore Dream at Kung Fu Necktie

*All events are 21+ valid ID required for entry*7 PM Doors7:30 PM ShowTHE BODYThe Body is a prolific musical force whose creativity is matched only by the astonishing weight of their sound. Duo Lee Buford and Chip King have established their own musical language that reimagines how rhythm, dynamics, and sonics can shape or dismantle song structure. Over the course of two decades, the duo has consistently challenged assumptions and defied categorization, redefining what it means to be a heavy band. On their new album, The Body are again pushing limits and testing the boundaries of the studio to explore the extremes and microtonality of distortion to find its maximal impact. I’ve Seen All I Need To See is The Body at their most incisively bleak, a towering monolith of noise.https://thebody.bandcamp.comMIDWIFEMidwife is the moniker of multi-instrumentalist Madeline Johnston.
