Franz Nicolay ~ Timeshares ~ The Tisburys

**All shows 21+—valid ID required** Doors: 7:00 PM Show: 7:30 PMFranz Nicolay For several years after my last record, I needed a break, and actively tried to keep from writing songs. But the combination of working on new Hold Steady material, writing my second book, and having unexpected time on my hands like everyone else in spring 2020 eventually primed the pump for a record’s worth (including a co-write with my THS bandmate Steve Selvidge). I assembled most of the material in April 2020 and recorded in spring 2021. The years off had constituted a time in which I thought I was finished as a musician; they were time characterized by the loss of several musician friends to suicide both acute and de-facto, and by consideration of the cost of “working the art muscle.” I was approaching a familiar sort of life crossroads which I’ve traditionally addressed on the principle of “blow it all up and see if that fixes things.” My previous album had ended with an image of endless, repetitive cycling; this one sees a way forward (“I am another now and not the same/I shall not pass this way again”). The pretty bleak and brutal worldview of “Wandering Star” and “The Morris Column” and the rest of the first side—culminating in an unforgiving dawn—gives way to a side two that, if it doesn’t exactly offer a light at the end of the tunnel, at least senses a faint glow up ahead. “New river, spring for me” is a kind of prayer for hope. The album was recorded at Atomic Garden in Oakland with drummer Ara Babajian (the Slackers) and bassist Frank Piegaro (Worriers); with generous help from friends including Jeff Rosenstock and Mike Huguenor (Death Rosenstock), Deanna Belos (Sincere Engineer), Lauren Denitzio (Worriers), Peter Hess (Philip Glass Ensemble), Steve Selvidge (The Hold Steady), and Todd Beene (Lucero, Chuck Ragan). The album artwork was by David Espinoza Alvarez (https://www.el-dee.net/), and the video for “New River” was directed by Diana Morales, both from Mexico. I met them through a wonderful group of friends in Mexico City.TimesharesPhilly punks Timeshares have signed to Wiretap Records for their next full-length album “Limb” out September 9th on Digital and 12″ LP soon after in October. The first single “Siren Sound,” is a fine example of this band’s ability to churn out warm, grizzled heartland punk. Speaking about the song, bassist Mike Natoli (who wrote this one) tells us, “I had just moved back to my hometown and got reluctantly dragged to my 10-year high school reunion. While I wasn’t necessarily questioning myself, it still managed to stir up some weird thoughts and feelings about what I was doing with my life. I wanted to write about the subject from the reverse perspective of ‘A Plea From A Cat Named Virtute’ by The Weakerthans and make it a proposition to my golden retriever Buddy. This wild idea that we could trade lives and he could go out on my adventures while I got to blend in with the scenery and not talk to anyone was something that seemed mutually beneficial.”The TisburysPhiladelphia Indie Rock; new album, EXILE ON MAIN STREET out now, stream the first single “Garden”
Thumpasaurus ~ Natalie Brooke (The Loft)

**All shows 21+—valid ID required** Doors: 7:00 PM Show: 8:00 PM *Due to popular demand the show has moved from Cambridge Hall to The Loft at Warehouse on Watts* ThumpasaurusIn the beginning there was Thump… The primordial groove of the Universe. Thump thumped its way through all things. In the beginning groove was harmony, and harmony was groove, and it was good. Long before the age of humans, the Thumpasaurus roamed the Earth, serving the cosmos as the teachers of the Thump. The thump traversed all beings, and the Thumpasarus helped distribute its secret wisdom to all sentient and non sentient creatures. It was good. As time passed and the Earth fluctuated between periods of great peace and great unrest, the Thumpasaurus became a threat to growing forces of evil- who fueled by a primary motivation in consumerism sought to eliminate the Thumpasaurus. To save the species and protect the goodness of the Universe, The Thumpasaurus fled the earth to the outer reaches of space time – though the Thumpasaurus swore to return to the Earth as harbingers of the age of reawakening. In their last gift to the consciousness of the cosmic manifestation of the Earth and its beings, the Thumpasaurus wrote down the secrets of the Thump in a manuscript of real troof and buried it in a sacredly SECRET location (the appalachian mountains) in hopes that the Thump would survive and benefit future generations with happiness, love and thump. As buildings turned to sand, and memories to dust, so too did the ancient memory of the Thumpasaurus and with them disappeared the philosophy of Thump.http://thumpasaurus.comNatalie BrookeNatalie Brooke is funk and rock brought to you by a powerful 4 piece from the DC area – female fronted with Natalie on keys, keytar and vocals and always backed by a stellar band. The music was once said to be the mashup of Rick James and Rush; a fiery blend of fast tempos, totally danceable grooves and some sloshy rock elements, too. Natalie’s keyboard playing is exceptionally unique because it is just as percussive as it is melodic and pianistic. Every performance from this band is electric.https://instagram.com/nataliebrooke_thebandhttps://facebook.com/music.nataliebrooke
Hot Mart (EP Release Show) ~ The Coral Gables ~ Austin Albright

**All shows 21+—valid ID required** Doors: 7:00 PM Show: 7:40 PMHot MartHot Mart is a Philadelphia based band comprised of Danielle Bruno, David Skovron, Danny Provencio Jr, Austin Albright, and Andrew Gerber. With their first single “Guess I’m Just Like My Mom,” released in August 2022, they exposed their alternative, goth, and punk influences that call to mind the sharp, heart wrenching lyricism of The Cure’s Robert Smith coupled with turbulent riffs akin to The Clash. Hot Mart explores many topics in their music from the fear of expression and trauma to bordering the line of sanity and intrusive thoughts. Their first self-titled EP, released in December 2022, unveils their eclectic mix of styles from the love ballad “Pretty Kitty in the City” to the off kilter, dissonant anthem “Sanatorium.”Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/0hg5sbkMPq0G9Pboma92txHere is a music video for our single “Guess I’m Just Like My Mom”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZivaAeuZ8o&ab_channel=HotMartBandLinkTree: https://lnk.bio/hotmartband The Coral GablesThe Coral Gables are a rock and roll trio based in New York City and formed in 2021. Since then, they have developed a rich body of original work, creating a unique fusion of old school country-influenced indie rock characterized by tasty guitar licks, groovy bass lines, tight drum fills, and witty lyrics that leave listeners entertained, emotionally devastated, and, in some cases, deceased. In August 2022, they released their first EP, ‘Moral Fables’, containing five of their favorite songs, including early singles “When’s It Gonna Stop?” and “King of Being Down on His Luck”.http://www.keepitcoral.com/Austin AlbrightAustin Albright is an indie musician of sorts from the woods of Philadelphia. The small, often overlooked parts of life find refuge in his music as he speaks to their peculiarities. From the monotonous repetitiveness of small talk to the lifespan of a goldfish, no topic is off limits. His songs have been compared to artists like Parquet Courts and Kevin Morby for their rough-around-the-edges vocal delivery and indie flair. While the guitars of David Skovron and Dan Shade create a lush wall of sound, Albright’s driving bass unites with Tom Flamm’s pounding drums to create garage rock with a Philly flair. His latest EP, “Living Room Life” released November 3rd as Albright and his bandmates look towards the future.https://svenjorgensonsjollyjams.wordpress.com/https://www.instagram.com/aus_ight/
