The Pauses ~ Honeythunder ~ Disaster Artist

**All shows 21+ – valid ID required**THE PAUSESWith their sophomore release Unbuilding (Arctic Rodeo Recordings), the Pauses have hit their sonic geyser, and attentive listeners can marvel at the resulting indierocktronica glints and glitter. Based in Orlando, Florida, the Pauses are multi-instrumentalist Jason Kupfer, vocalist-bassistkeyboardist Tierney Tough, and drummer Nathan Chase. Produced and mixed by J. Robbins (Jawbox, Burning Airlines), his influence can be heard in the heavier guitar propulsion that churns under the allure of the electronic ear candy on the surface. This combination live makes dancing feel like a decision the whole room made at once. On Unbuilding, the Pauses have evolved their collaborative songwriting, and few tracks show the pop heft of that effort as well as “Digital Detox.” It slams you almost like a wall of sound, with Tough’s typically clear-as-a-bell vocal distorted to great effect, evoking ‘60s girl groups with warped sensibilities. Trumpets, timpani, cello, theremin and electronic elements are called upon to create the Pauses’ authentic sound, and then whisked away to allow the vocals space, as in the sparse, unusual dreamscape on “Had/Have.” Other times, the sound can bound in bilateral increments, like the playful piano to guitar crush of “The Means.” Their range is key, with loud live rockers like “Don’t Wake Me Up” and “Animus?”, which is particularly intense as it dangles wildly at the album’s end and concludes, “What a way to feel nothing real.” That line evokes an overarching theme of the album, which gazes into the black mirror and is smart enough not to take it seriously. Songs like “Eventually, Everything Connects,” “Digital Detox” and “Don’t Wake Me Up” suggest a rebellion against the online drone, with lines that invite you to throw your arms up and sing out, “I don’t need the details shoved down my throat.”https://thepauses.bandcamp.com/HONEYTHUNDERFriendly punks making indie grunge in a basement in West Philadelphiahttps://honeythunderphl.bandcamp.com/album/thats-baseball-babyDISASTER ARTISThttps://disasterartistband.bandcamp.com/

The Ghost Club ~ Micky James

THE GHOST CLUB”Pittsburgh native Domenic Dunegan is the frontman to the popular band The Ghost Club. Amassing over 10 million streams across streaming platforms since their 2018 debut, the band is certainly making a name for themselves with Dunegan’s vocal style at the forefront. The Ghost Club’s new single “All I Know,” released on Mon., May 10, is a fun, synth-heavy, pop-rock anthem that really lets Dunegan’s vocals shine. Dunegan is a multi-instrumentalist as well, so his talents lie far beyond his ability to sing. “All I Know” is definitely an infectious song, with snappy lyrics in the chorus that resonate.” -Pittsburgh City Paperhttps://open.spotify.com/artist/5dXivPEjgjJmjTemfAPRnXMICKY JAMESBorn and raised in the shadows of Philly and NYC, Micky James naturally developed a taste for the theatrical and aspired to become a performer from a young age. In his music and personal style, Micky explores a sound and aesthetic that is nostalgic of a bygone era in rock-n-roll music, while still maintaining a contemporary pop ambition. Micky’s unique vocals are reminiscent of great character voices such as David Bowie and Julian Casablancas, alluding to the dark, mysterious, and romantic qualities that are so distinct to those artists. While Micky’s flamboyant fashions evoke the glamour and swagger of past rock icons, his work is both equal parts style and substance. Inspired by the authentic energy of 60’s and 70’s iconic rock band’s, James is successful in crafting a modern and fresh approach to a timeless genre, “I wanted to take pieces of nostalgia and give it a contemporary twist”, explains James. Successfully taking his vision and turning it into a reality. In July 2020, Micky released his most recent single “Kings”. The song garnered critical acclaim, with one critic calling it “a defiant uprising of the generationally damned and disgruntled, as well as the most authentic rock n’ roll you’ve heard in years”.https://www.themickyjames.com/

Tours throughout Europe, Canada and the US, plus performances at SXSW, Dunk! Fest. and Post In Paris have been intertwined with five releases – the most recent being “Snake Behind The Sun” which was mixed and co-produced by Mike Watts.https://shylowmusic.bandcamp.com/ NORTH ENDNorth End is a math rock / post-rock band based in Pennsylvania with releases dating back to 2011.  The band is constantly pushing the boundaries of instrumental music with a heavy emphasis on complicated melodic and rhythmic phrasing.   They released their sixth studio album, Halted, one year after their single “Cabra” appeared on a split with Signal Hill. The writing for Halted started after a northeast tour was abruptly canceled due to the pandemic in March 2020.  Spread across Pennsylvania and Colorado, sheltered indoors, North End developed four songs that channeled their creativity, influenced by music the band was listening to at the time. https://northend.bandcamp.com/   HIROEHiroe is an Instrumental rock band from Philadelphia. Zopa & The Mystery Lights ~ Grass Cannon

*All events are 21+ valid ID required for entry*8 PM Doors9 PM ShowZOPAZOPA is Elijah Amitin, Michael Imperioli, and Olmo Tighe. The three-part New York indie-rock band is ZOPA, “patience” in Tibetan. And also the middle word of Michael’s Buddhist name: Konchog Zopa Sonam.“When you lose your patience, you lose your love.” Garchen RinpocheThe trio’s story is one of chance connections, tracing to ’83 when at age 17, Imperoli began “kicking it in the city,” choosing the arts over college. It was a fertile time in NY to explore theater, art, music— still connected to the late ’60s early ’70s underground scene that largely informed Imperioli’s artistic consciousness. That same year, Amitin and Tighe were born. Amitin grew up going to Latin music clubs with his father Mike Amitin who was a salsa musician in the golden era of the New York Latin music scene. Tighe comes from an avant-garde art background, who at age 14, handed Amitin a Shuggie Otis record and has continued to expand Amitin’s musical horizons. Amitin and Tighe played music together in high school in the early aughts, Amitin on bass and Tighe on drums. In ‘91 Tighe and Imperioli shared the screen in Postcards from America, fifteen years later Imperioli heard Tighe was a drummer, and years after that, headed to The Strand where Tighe worked and “scooped him up” to be the drummer in his new band. They’re family now. Tighe married Imperioli’s cousin. Tighe invited Amitin along for their first practice session and the day before, Amitin ran into Michael on the street by chance greeting him with; “I’m playing with you tomorrow.”“What’s even more serendipitous is that they are two of the best human beings I have ever had the privilege of knowing. Our first practice was in February of 2006 in NYC, our first gig was in June of that year at Cabaret Maxime in Lisbon and our first record was released in the infamous Summer of 2020. Along the way we did tons of shows in NYC, played on bills with the likes of Robert Pollard, David Johanson, Tommy Stinson, Walter Lure, Jesse Malin and Richard Butler, did an East coast tour of America, a few gigs in L.A. and returned once to Lisbon. It feels like we are just getting started.” – ImperioliIn covering Lou Reed’s “Ocean” and “Heroin” ZOPA’s sound taps into a collective nostalgic past, echoing the transcendent spaces of New York punk rock’n’roll. Relying on analog technology and minimal overdubbing for their production, their vintage sound takes center stage in live performance and recordings.https://zopa.bandcamp.com/THE MYSTERY LIGHTSOriginally from the small town of Salinas, California and now based in NYC, The Mystery Lights’ live shows gradually became the stuff of legend as the quintet won their following one fan at a time in dives from Brooklyn to the Bowery. The Lights’ sound has evolved into a fuzz-fueled hopped-up 21st Century take on 60s garage pebbles, and artful 70s punk, that is all their own.https://themysterylights.bandcamp.com/GRASS CANNONGrass Cannon is a far out band born in Philadelphia, PA. The establishment of a team culture, a methodical way of living and being, rather than a certain sound: the Grass Cannon way is laid back and low pressure, not fooled by time or space, doing it for the love of it. https://grasscannon.bandcamp.com/

Liily ~ Model/Actriz ~ Catcher

*All events are 21+ valid ID required for entry*7 PM Doors7:30 PM ShowLIILY Liily is an alternative rock & roll band born and bred in Los Angeles. Liily makes music that draws on all the jagged stimuli of their upbringings to make something distinctly their own. It is a sound that invokes some of their genre’s greatest forebearers (Jane’s Addiction, Foals) and the massive heavy riffs of Rage Against the Machine. The band is led by vocalist Dylan Nash, guitarist and lead visual artist Sam De La Torre, bass player Charlie Anastasis, and Maxx Morando, a drummer who may simply play faster and harder than any drummer on the planet and who is the lynchpin behind Liily’s memorably visceral live performances. Nearly one year from the release of their first single “Toro,” Liily have traveled nonstop across the US, UK, & EU, with slots at Lollapalooza, Shaky Knees and Bonnaroo, as well as festival performance in as far-reaching territories as the Czech Republic. Liily’s first EP I Can Fool Anybody In This Town dropped in March 2019. They followed the release with a live concert documentary entitled CITY/VALLEY: a Concert Film of the Brekfest Festival documenting the band’s own homegrown festival Brekfest, a now annual event created by the band and their label in LA. CLASH magazine say “Liily have a dynamic that is all their own, matching angular songwriting to sheer relentless desire.”https://www.liilytheband.com/MODEL/ACTRIZhttps://modelactriz.com/CATCHERCatcher is a Brooklyn-based post-punk band with a reputation for visceral and powerful live performances. Drawing comparisons to the birthday party, sonic youth and the fall, catcher delivers music with a driving and inundating low-end, provided by childhood friends Cameron Mcrae and Wilson Chestney, on bass and drums respectively. Guitarists Jack Young and Christian Reech interweave melodies and noise to create an environment that manages to be at once both bleak and moving, desolate but hopeful, violent but tender. Classically trained violinist Zach Mezzo brings, through his background in experimental composition, a combination of moody swells, driving staccatos, and vicious noise that enrich and accentuate the dynamics and dramatics inherent to the band’s songwriting. Vocalist Austin Eichler commands listeners with a domineering and chaotic presence. From drawling croons to powerful screams, Austin’s narrative lyrics invoke a wide spectrum of emotion while creating a world of their own. Through endless hours of practice and work the band has crafted a gripping and tight live performance and a growing international fanbase.https://www.etix.com/ticket/p/8628422/liily-modelactriz-catcher-philadelphia-silk-city
