Hayden Pedigo ~ Marem Ladson

AGE RESTRICTION: Only Ages 21+ can purchase tickets for this show. NO REFUNDS/EXCHANGES for anyone underage who purchases or attempts to use these tickets. Doors: 7:00 PMShow: 7:30 PM Hayden Pedigo Something happened. Between the summer of The Happiest Times I Ever Ignored and the night before Christmas Eve 2023, the music of Hayden Pedigo transformed. Back-to-back months of touring lead to incredible outcomes: First, his chops became more finely honed than ever before, lending a precision and versatility to the songs that would surprise even the most-seasoned Pedigo listener. Second, Hayden lived in these songs, translating them through improvisation and dynamic exploration into emotional juggernauts – instrumental music that sings to the audience. Landing in his hometown of Amarillo, Texas for the holidays to perform at The Amarillo Globe-News Center – home of the Amarillo Symphony – a gorgeous and beguiling set was recorded in front of a crowd of nearly five hundred people. Put to tape by Nathan and Joe Luscombe, mixed by Davis Hart, and mastered by Stephan Mathieu, Mexican Summer proudly presents Hayden Pedigo’s Live in Amarillo, Texas, an album that could one day be mentioned in the same breath as John Fahey’s The Great Santa Barbara Oil Slick and Townes Van Zandt’s Live at the Old Quarter. Marem LadsonIn the depths of Marem Ladson’s music lies a profound exploration of her cross-cultural identity, intertwining her unique approach to lyrical and introspective songwriting with influences from folk, pop, and Spanish traditional music. Born in Spain and based in New York, “her sumptuous hooks and sweetly lilting vocals seem to form a language unto themselves” (Stephen Thompson, NPR Music). Hailing from Galicia in northern Spain, Marem sought solace from an early age in the written word, penning short stories and poems that served as windows into her internal world. It was not long before she discovered the transformative power of music, teaching herself to play the guitar and transforming her literary creations into heartfelt songs. It was through music that she sought to understand herself, seeking connection and a true sense of belonging. In Galicia, she found a close-knit community of musicians at Café Torgal, a small indie music venue that birthed her artistic awakening. It was there that she immersed herself in the music of artists like Damien Jurado, Matthew E. White, and Lee Renaldo, while also stepping onto the stage for her first live performances. In 2018, she released her self-titled debut album, which led to extensive touring in Spain and Portugal, sharing stages with renowned acts like Cat Power and Laura Gibson. Now based in New York City, Marem’s latest EP, “Baby Light,” is a significant meditation on unresolved trauma and its impact on her personal existence. Singing in both English and Spanish, it showcases a folk-pop fueled by the rawest of emotions and the duality of her bicultural heritage, thus crafting a sound that is all her own. These songs intricately weave pain, anger, loss, and hope, illuminating the brilliance that emerges amidst life’s kaleidoscope of emotions.

Igor and the Red Elvises ~ Raisin

AGE RESTRICTION: Only Ages 21+ can purchase tickets for this show. NO REFUNDS/EXCHANGES for anyone underage who purchases or attempts to use these tickets. Doors: 7:00 PMShow: 8:00 PM Igor Yuzov was born in Germany, raised in Ukraine and studied in Russia. He grew up in the former Soviet Union, where folk music was the norm and rock’n’roll was illegal. A rebellious streak, led him to seek out the forbidden music. As soon as it became possible, Igor left Russia for America with his “Folk’n’Roll” band Limpopo, and was personally greeted by Ronald Reagan. In 1993, Limpopo won Ed McMahon’s Star Search and their popularity began to blossom. In 1995, Igor dreamed that Elvis Presley came to him and told him to start playing rock’n’roll. Igor and his Russian friends became Red Elvises and gave street performances on Santa Monica’s 3rd Street Promenade. As their crowds grew larger, the City of Santa Monica ordered them to discontinue their street performances. Evolving over the years, Igor’s music has been labeled “Siberian Surf Rock” which contains humorous lyrics and grooves that forces his audience to dance. Over the past 20 years, Red Elvises have constantly toured all over the world with occasional breaks to record new music and to participate in film and television projects. As an independent band, Red Elvises have produced 12 studio albums, two live albums, a live concert DVD, and a Greatest Hits compilation. Some of their most notable film contributions include music and or performances in “Six String Samurai”, “Mail Order Bride”, “Armageddon”, “Skippy”,  “Melrose Place”, “Fastlane”, “Penn and Teller’s Sin City Extravaganza”, “VH-1 Behind the Music”, and “MTV”. Red Elvises have performed for large festivals, private parties, and played on massive stages such as 2005’s Live 8 Benefit Concert. No matter where they perform, Igor & Red Elvises always bring the party with them. Liz Cooper ~ Dari Bay ~ Slark Moan

AGE RESTRICTION: Only Ages 21+ can purchase tickets for this show. NO REFUNDS/EXCHANGES for anyone underage who purchases or attempts to use these tickets. Doors: 7:00 PMShow: 7:30 PM Liz CooperOn the porch of her one-time Nashville home, Liz Cooper had a multimedia project that combined two of her loves: lips and cigarettes. She painted her own lips with red paint and kissed a canvas two or three hundred times, later dotting them with the detritus left behind in ashtrays by her friends. An overlap of intimacy, indulgence, cheekiness, and sensuality, the piece complements Cooper’s roiling second record, Hot Sass. Over jagged, frenetic guitar parts, Cooper sets expectations aflame with the record’s title track. Her songs unfurl like smoke spiraling off an incense cone late in the afternoon, with Cooper pushing deeper into psychedelic openness, punk ferocity, and beyond. Dari BayOn new album Longest Day of the Year, Dari Bay is a perpetually shifting art project posing as songs, an ongoing thought experiment disguised as a band. Burlington, Vermont-based artist Zachary James launched Dari Bay as a solo vehicle in 2015, acting as sole songwriter, producer, player of every instrument, and exacting architect of how each sound was placed. Early output was raw and often unhinged, but Longest Day of the Year finds Dari Bay assuming a new form as James folds his experimental spirit into what at first appear to be neutral, unassuming tunes. Contour

AGE RESTRICTION: Only Ages 21+ can purchase tickets for this show. NO REFUNDS/EXCHANGES for anyone underage who purchases or attempts to use these tickets. Doors: 7:00 PMShow: 8:00 PM Contour The Charleston, South Carolina artist Contour’s body of work is evidence of a restless curiosity that culminates on his latest album and debut for Mexican Summer, Take Off from Mercy. Starting off as a beatmaker, Khari’s vision has broadened over releases like Onwards (2022, Touching Bass), Love Suite (2021, Good Question) and Weight (self-released/Purple Tape Pedigree, 2021), spanning from noirish, sample-driven R&B to covers of Strawberry Switchblade. Take Off from Mercy eschews samples in favor of guitar-driven songwriting, positing a singular take on the blues, Tropicalia, hip hop, post-punk and indie rock, establishing Lucas as an exemplary lyricist and broad collaborator, working with the likes of Saul Williams, Mndsgn and his co-producer, Omari Jazz.   Following the pandemic, Lucas toured relentlessly, recently opening a US run for Erika de Casier and appearing at Pitchfork Festival (Chicago) and Le Guess Who? Beyond his prolific solo output, recent collaborations include Black Decelerant, an ambient duo with the aforementioned Omari Jazz who just released their self-titled debut on RVNG Intl. Lucas also collaborates with the operatic baritone singer Davóne Tines as part of a band called THE TRUTH on ROBESOŠ˜, a performance released by the venerable Nonesuch Records.   Contour is a key member of a distinct cohort of young artists weaving the traditions of Black music into thoroughly modern, avant-garde songcraft. Within his work, genres and disciplines collide. Lucas’s radio show for Dublab, Footprints in the Dark, took stock of the deep discographies of foundational figures like Gilberto Gil and Georgia Anne Muldrow. Meanwhile, Lucas has organized readings with the likes of Harmony Holiday and screened films from Black Audio Film Collective director John Akomfrah, and completed artist residencies with NTS Radio and Brooklyn’s Pioneer Works.   Within all this activity, Lucas’s sound and voice are immediately recognizable, his flow and declarative honesty heavily influenced by rap. Lucas’s recent live shows with the likes of Billy Woods and Bilal featured him roving the stage singing and rapping over samples before sitting at the piano for downcast, Bill Withers-style ballads. Take Off from Mercy is a document of hard-earned lessons learned while on the move. Omari and Khari worked on the record in Charleston, Portland, NYC, London, Paris, Georgia, LA and Houston, feeding into the album’s themes of transformation through migration. Lucas will follow the fall release of Take Off from Mercy with expanded live tours through the US, UK and Europe in fall 2024. As this flurry of activity suggests, there will inevitably be more records, shows, tours, readings and screenings in the near future. The urgency of Contour’s vision is palpable in this myriad of pursuits.

Native Sun ~ Nervous Nikki ~ Shaper

AGE RESTRICTION: Only Ages 21+ can purchase tickets for this show. NO REFUNDS/EXCHANGES for anyone underage who purchases or attempts to use these tickets. Doors: 7:00 PMShow: 8:00 PM Native Sun”Native Sun grows with increasing urgency in the face of the inexorable climate crisis, growing civil division, and overlapping public health emergencies. Colombian-American songwriter Danny Gomez (vox/guitar) battles the impotence of our time when it seems, to use the words of Voltaire, common sense is not so common. Nico Espinosa (drums) and Justin Barry (bass) round out the resonant rhythms & Jack Hiltabidle (lead guitar) create a space of controlled chaos at high-energy live shows as well as detailed and layered recordings. Raw and honest, the New York band delivers solace and catharsis to all audiences—singing about grief, disillusionment with our time, and lovingly documenting the lives of the outcasts and misfits. Native Sun channels the grit of punk with the tenor of the times when rock ‘n’ roll could change something.Their latest EP Off With Our Heads, produced by Walter Schreifels (Quicksand, Gorilla Biscuits, Rival Schools) is out now via Grand Jury Music (Twin Peaks, TOLEDO, Carl Barât) and Rough Trade Publishing.”https://www.nativesunyc.com/ Nervous Nikki and the Chill PillsNervous Nikki and the Chill Pills is a band based in the suburbs of Philly led by drummer and vocalist Nicole Bauza. Sonically, they orbit in a unique asteroid belt of influences; a seldom seen place where rock and roll, hip hop, and folk music float together in unison. Together Nicole, Nathan, Doug, and Kendal bring you punchy bass lines, melodic guitar riffs, and group singing powered by raw emotion.https://linktr.ee/nervousnikki ShaperFrom the ashes of long running Philly psych rock band Meddlesome Bells, SHAPER is a noise rock power trio. Easy Honey ~ XIXIX ~ Lady HD

AGE RESTRICTION: Only Ages 21+ can purchase tickets for this show. NO REFUNDS/EXCHANGES for anyone underage who purchases or attempts to use these tickets. Doors: 7:00 PMShow: 8:00 PMEasy HoneyEasy Honey was born out of the small-town innocent college days: the days of walking home under the starry night and springing under the watchful eye of sunny graveyards, Dairy Queens, and neo-gothic cathedrals.   Selby and Darby, fast friends upon meeting at college in Sewanee, TN, instantly began writing songs in the basements of academic buildings after hours. These songs were inspired by both the beauty of the natural world around them and the coming of age romances experienced during this time.  After adding Charlie Holt to the group, the band honed their live show at college parties and took their batch of songs to record in Nashville. The group has since blossomed, infusing its singer-songwriter folk roots with an original blend of East Coast surf-rock, catalyzed by the band’s relocation to the up and coming Charleston, SC, music scene. The band has sold out multiple shows around the country since beginning touring in 2022.  Easy Honey’s witty melodies dotted with catchy hooks serve as anthems of nostalgia for their indie rock audience of daydreamers and nightseekers. Drawing inspiration from the originality and attitude of The Kinks, The Killers, The Replacements, the band’s raucous, yet sentimental, live show exemplifies the realness that people crave in an internet-driven world. Easy Honey has supported in concert and taken after the spirit of currently popular bands such as flipturn and Sunroom. Easy Honey is supporting their upcoming album, ‘Cupidity Unlimited’, (to be released on 07/17). the 6 month long tour will include: their ‘Mountain Town Tour’ (15+ shows in Colorado), their second annual ‘Surf Tour’ (a two week run headlining East Coast venues, environmental clean-ups, and surfing Atlantic waves) and finally a full US loop (playing TX, midwestern states, and the North East etc.)  Co-frontmen Darby McGlone (vocals, guitar) and Selby Austin (vocals, guitar) share writing and singing duties, while Charlie Holt (drums, vocals) and Webster Austin (bass, vocals) provide a rhythm section which complements the personified, interwoven electric guitars. When not touring, the band lives in Charleston, SC, leading the way in the rapidly growing music scene… and surfing Folly Beach when home. XIXIXInstagramLADY HDPhiladelphia Psychedelic PopInstagram
